Our aim is to use our combined scale to fight climate change—by reducing our energy impact in our offices, decreasing our travel footprint, utilizing preferred raw materials in our products and packaging, and working with our supply chain partners to reduce energy consumption. We know that energy is the largest contributor to climate change, so we use renewable energy whenever possible.

Climate & Clean Energy

The energy sector is the largest contributor to climate change as it produces the most greenhouse gas emissions. We strive to use renewable energy whenever possible and choose the most effective means that reduce our climate change impact. This includes: utilizing preferred raw materials in our products and packaging, exploring end of life opportunities, reducing our air travel, and optimizing our partnered manufacturing.

Carbon & Greenhouse Gas Emissions

At Sanuk, our goal is to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 40% per pair by 2030.
Measurement was the first step in our journey. We then wanted to challenge ourselves, hold ourselves accountable, and reduce our global GHG emissions.

The fashion industry is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. The energy required to produce our raw materials, and assemble our products, has a large impact on our environmental footprint.
We believe in measuring, reducing and then evaluating offsets. Knowing that materials are our greatest impact, Sanuk adopted its own internal goals towards achieving its science-based targets. These internal Sanuk goals include a targeted greenhouse gas reduction by 40% per pair (footwear) and a targeted energy reduction by 40% per pair (footwear) by 2030.

Water

Our water strategy includes tracking and monitoring, reduction targets and increased water recycling. In the future, we intend to support various water projects focused on providing reliable, ongoing water and sanitation services to our global communities.

Targets

At Sanuk, we have set a target to reduce our water usage by 30% per pair by 2030. We expect our partners to adhere to the highest standards of water efficiency and discharge. We require 100% of our partners to have wastewater discharge permits to ensure proper disposal.

Waste

We look at waste holistically: studying waste generation, waste diversion, end-of-life, and manufacturing/post-industrial waste. We also monitor waste generation and waste diversion among the majority of our key supply chain partners. We are committed to doing our part to reduce our waste generation and use the best methods available through the various channels of our business.

Parternships

We manufacture primarily in Asia and are committed to doing our part to engage our global partners on proper waste management. We monitor waste generation and waste diversion among certain supply chain partners and organize an annual beach cleanup in our Asia Pacific region.
